This Conversation Cafe kicks off a brand new series of monthly meetings! Starting in August, Cafe participants will watch a movie together, offered through our Japanese Film Festival (JFF) Theater, then discuss it in Japanese.
This session will give an overview of the series so you know what to expect. Jared McClellan (Japanese Language Advocacy, JFLA) will introduce the structure, organization, and expected outcomes, while Michael VanHartingsveldt (Arts & Culture, JFLA) will introduce JFF Theater and talk about some of the film events that JFLA has supported, as well as the rare prints available for loan from the Japan Foundation archive.
Space is limited, so RSVP as soon as possible!
Ages: 18 and up; under 18 with an accompanying adult
Time: 12:00 - 3:00 pm (doors open at 11:45)
Notes: JFLA will select family-friendly films, but please familiarize yourself with each film to ensure it is appropriate for you. The film screening and Conversation Cafe take place in spaces where art is being exhibited, so please treat the art respectfully.

The Japan Foundation launched the JFF Theater online streaming platform to further popularize Japanese films and videos around the world. Based on the theme, "Moved, Touched & Inspired," we aim to reach out to international audiences, fostering connections and inspiring exchanges among Japanese film fans, both new and old alike. JFF Theater is an online streaming service that distributes Japanese films and videos worldwide, with multilingual subtitles, all free of charge. Through this website, the Japan Foundation aims to create a platform where Japanese films and videos can be viewed anytime, anywhere.
