There are six steps to register the course:
Download the Self-check list and Assessment test and check if the course you are interested in fits you. Please consult with us if you are not sure which course you should. Try the self-assessment tests and self-check lists for several different levels if you need. Send your list and test to us when you register for the course (See Step 5).
*Both New and Past students should complete this step.
Read through the“Rules & Policies” below, which includes our cancellation and refund policy
Click the blue button below and go to the Registration Form page. Fill out the form and submit it online. Don't forget to send us your self-check list and assesment test by e-mail as well (See Step 5). You can pay your tuition by PayPal through the online registration form, or if you prefer, you can pay by personal check (See Step 6).
Submit your self-check list and assessment test of the course you registered immediately. Please send as an attachment to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you print it out and write by hand, please send photo or scanned attachment. We might consult with you based on your self-check list and assessment test if necessary.
If you choose "check" as a payment method when you register, make a check or money order payable to "The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles." Be careful to write the correct fee amount on the check as well as the course name and location in the memo section.(Ex. Making Friends 1 : Little Tokyo) Checks should be made out individually (one per student), and we ask that you please write one check for the tuition fee and another for the textbook fee. We will send you a confirmation e-mail within three business days upon arrival of payment.
Please be sure to mail us your payment within one week of registering to secure your spot, otherwise we will move you to our waiting list.
You will receive the final reminder e-mail for the information about the first class. Come to the classroom on time. We will provide class materials and a set of textbooks if you purchased them.

1. Cancellation and Refund
Cancellation and refund requests must be received by e-mail (email@example.com) by the cancellation deadline in order to receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued after the deadline passes. The cancellation deadline is about one week before the first meeting, which means, in principle, you cannot cancel the course once the course starts.
2. Changing Courses
Before the cancellation deadline, you may change a course you have applied for, if there is still room in the course. You may change a course via e-mail or telephone. However, no course changes will be allowed after the deadline passes.
3. Changes by JFLA
The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles (JFLA), may cancel courses when necessary. Applicants will be notified in advance and receive refunds. The course contents are subject to change.
4. Cancellations by JFLA
JFLA may change a scheduled class due to an unforeseen circumstance. In such a case, we will schedule a make-up class for the following week.
5. Course Availability
All courses are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for each course will close once it is filled to capacity.
6. Late Registration
After the first class has been held, you may not enroll in the course.
To choose a course, read each course description. Download a self-check and an assessment test to see if the course is suitable for you. We might consult with you based on your self-check list and assessment test answers if necessary in order to help the assessment.
8. Transfer Courses
You cannot transfer the course you registered to another course after the cancellation deadline and after the first class starts.
9. Make-up Classe
You are responsible for any miss lessons. There are no make-up classes or refunds if you miss class. However, you can attend a make-up session in the same week, once out of nine meetings, at our other days of the week (e.g. Thursday) with the approval of the instructor in advance. We will provide to you the materials for the class you missed, but do not offer private tutoring.
10. Waiting List
Once the class becomes full, applicants can be placed on a waiting list. If space becomes available, applicants will be enrolled in the class. If space does not become available after the cancellation deadline, JFLA will refund 100% of your payment.
