POOL-Japanese Language Lecturers (Part Time)

The Japan Foundation, Los Angeles (JFLA) invites applicants for our part-time lecturer positions in Japanese language.

With our many years of experience and achievements in Japanese Language Education, JFLA has been offering Japanese language courses in Los Angeles since 2012. The courses will be based on our “JF Standards,” which were developed by our headquarters in Japan. We are seeking applicants who are passionate about Japanese-language education as well as those who will be proactively involved in JFLA activities. 
Please note that part-time positions are as-needed positions and do not accrue rights to tenure.

Part-time lecturer

Number of positions available: Limited number of lecturers

  • Teaching will include evening and/or weekend hours
  • Be actively engaged in the Japanese language courses, lesson plans, curriculum, and instructional material development  
  • Provide informed feedback on assignments 

Apart from the above duties, we will ask you to substitute teach classes on behalf of other teachers when needed and your schedule permits, as well as collaborate with JFLA staff for additional Japanese-related workshops, events, and activities, and attend conferences related to Japanese language education.


  • M.A in a field related to Japanese-language education or an American Teacher Certification
  • At least two years of Japanese-language teaching experience (private lessons or TA experiences are not included)
  • Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and proficient verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Appropriate visa status to be able to legally work in the United States
  • Flexibility and breadth to teach both language and culture preferred

The person who fills this position will be paid an hourly rate. $65-/hrs. (Academic preparation is included), commensurate with qualifications and experience based on The Japan Foundation’s rules and regulations.
We will provide the transportation allowance separately.

  • 大学院修士課程を修了した者、または米国におけるTeaching certificateを有する者
  • 日本語教育に2年以上従事した経歴(個人教授を除く)を持つ者(海外で日本語教育に従事した経験のある者が望ましい)
  • 日本語はネイティブ、もしくはネイティブに近いレベル。英語はクラス内での説明ができ、受講生とのコミュニケーションが取れるレベル
  • 米国で働くことができるビザを所有している者  
  • 協調性、柔軟性があり、日本語及び日本文化を教えることができる者
